Enrich your abilities in a collaborative, inclusive culture
Meet Andrew, IT Analyst at AGC Automotive North America
What was your journey into a tech role?
I began as a contractor in May of 2013. By January 2014 I was hired full-time, initially working on the shop floor on one of our windshield furnaces. Within that same year I applied and was accepted for a Quality Assurance position. For the next two years I performed product, process, and system audits to the ISO/TS 16949 standard.
How did the move into IT happen?
In 2016 I transitioned into a more focused Metrology role, building and programming our automated inspection fixtures. My participation in a key project from 2017-2019 allowed me to develop valuable skills in automation, software development, and project management. In 2019 I accepted a Senior Analyst position in our Information Technology department.
What does your job involve now?
My current role involves wearing many hats. Day to day in IT, we support everything from process automation, audio/video systems, server administration, to generating dashboards and reports from a variety of data sources. I have more opportunity than ever before to gain skills and explore new technologies
What do you enjoy most about your new career?
Most enjoyable for me is the opportunity to be involved in the most exciting initiatives I see within the company – “Smart Factory,” data analytics, machine learning, closed-loop process feedback, and more.
What is it like working with your colleagues?
In IT, we have a growing team providing services for a huge number of users. We have a focused, professional, well-aligned group. Everyone stays organized to meet the demands. To work with us, you must make good use of a whiteboard!
How is your team’s work helping AGC make a positive impact on the world?
We provide the systems that allow work to take place in the 21st century. We try to set the standard for investing time and energy in bringing about lasting solutions. Affecting positive change cannot be solely a policy, it should be a day-to-day mindset.
What has been your most memorable moment at AGC so far?
On the professional side, easily the most memorable has been my involvement with the automated systems. The hardware and applications our team built are world-class.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining AGC?
My experience at AGC has been attention to detail, a desire to learn, and willingness to embrace challenges will carry you far. We need like-minded individuals to help us bridge the gap from adding technology to adding value.
Affecting positive change cannot be solely a policy, it should be a day-to-day mindset.
