AGC Recycle Glass in the Czech Republic
AGC Flat Glass Czech collected nearly 200 tonnes of post-consumer glass during the inaugural year of its established Recycle Glass service focused on post-consumer collection.
About AGC Recycle Glass
AGC Glass Europe has a long-standing practice of recycling cullet (recycled flat glass) from its own production plants to manufacture new glass. The goal is to maximize the use of this resource, ensuring that more glazing waste is reintroduced into a high-value manufacturing loop rather than being lost to landfill or downcycling.
Recycle Glass is AGC's dedicated service for collecting flat glass waste from sources like industrial offcuts and deconstruction projects. This waste is then processed through a network of specialized partners to guarantee high-quality cullet suitable for circular recycling.
The Czech Republic's Recycling Success
The service's first year focused on post-consumer in the Czech Republic has been a success. In 2025, 199 tonnes of end-of-life glazing were collected and are now being remelted to produce new glass and reduce our carbon footprint.
This achievement is powered by close collaboration with our local entities—AGC Processing Teplice, AGC Fenestra Salaš, and AGC Fenestra Stod. They are instrumental in collecting and processing what was once considered "waste" from our customers, transforming it into a valuable raw material for our flat glass production plant in Řetenice.
A Formalized & Efficient Collection System
AGC provides a practical and professional collection system tailored for the Czech market. The service is offered to existing customers under a formal contract, ensuring a clear and compliant partnership. For larger demolition and deconstruction projects, specific temporary containers are also made available.
The process is simple and structured:
- Clients and partners receive clear quality requirements to prepare the glass waste accordingly.
- The waste glass is collected based on mutually agreed-upon terms.
- The collected glass is treated into high-quality cullet and used to produce new flat glass at the Řetenice plant, creating a seamless, locally managed circular economy.
As a testament to their contribution, AGC issues partners an Official Certificate of CO2 and Primary Raw Material Savings.
A Tangible Environmental Impact
The environmental benefits of this initiative are significant. Using recycled glass in our production process reduces CO2 emissions by up to 0.7 tonnes per tonne of cullet and avoids the extraction of 1.2 tonnes of virgin raw materials. The 2025 results translate to a saving of over 83 tonnes of CO2 and 143 tonnes of raw materials.
This initiative delivers a triple benefit: reducing environmental impact, increasing the recycled content of AGC’s products, and providing a cost-effective waste solution for our clients and partners. It is a key step toward a more sustainable glass industry where end-of-life glazing is no longer seen as waste, but as a valuable resource.
Celebrating Our 2025 Recycling Champion
We extend a huge congratulations to our inaugural recycling champion, TOSPUR, for their impressive contribution of 41 tonnes of flat glass!
