Inspire progress by doing the right thing
Meet Tania, HR Manager at AGC Automotive Mexico
Why did you first decide to join AGC?
I joined because of the challenges and development opportunities the company could offer. The remit was to improve all the areas of the department: Recruitment, Administration, Total Compensation, Training, Services, Organizational Development, Internal Communication.
What does your current role involve?
I´m responsible for the Human Resources Department in San Luis Potosí and Guadalajara Plants (Mexico). We have moved well beyond a ‘transactional’, reactive form of HR. So, I am looking for continuous improvement in each Human Resources area.
Could you give us an example of improvement in action?
As is often the case in manufacturing, our plants had issues with turnover and absenteeism. In HR we worked closely with leaders across the business – taking a creative approach to devising and implementing a new process. The new approach increased the availability and openness of the management team and the engagement with each of the associates. Doors were opened. People were listened to. This built trust and teamwork, and reduced turnover. The working environment became more positive and productive for everyone.
What is the key to making improvement work?
Collaboration is essential – bringing people together, getting their buy-in and drawing on different ideas. Without focus, direction and teamwork as a leadership group, changes in human capital are impossible.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Getting to know the people here and then creating the strategies that will touch their professional lives and develop their careers.
How is your team’s work helping AGC make a positive impact on the world?
By developing our people, we are equipping them to help create more sustainable, more useful products. And, by supporting and developing the employees who trust in AGC, we are helping benefit the communities around our plants.
What are you most looking forward to for the future?
I am working to develop and standardize HR Mexico processes while continuing to develop my HR team to help grow AGC.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining AGC?
Go for it. AGC gives you the opportunity to grow, with development focused on each person.
