Cradle to Cradle certification of AGC’s glass products successfully extended until 2021

Numerous AGC Glass Europe product ranges have been awarded Cradle to Cradle sustainability certificates, including float and magnetron coated glass and various decorative glass and laminated safety glass ranges. Thermobel and iplus/ipasol insulating glazing have now been recertified for another two years, adding newcomer Thermobel Scena to the list of certified products.

Although the overall score awarded to AGC’s insulating glazing was Bronze, the products were rated Silver for Water Stewardship and Gold for Social Fairness. Their scores for Material Reutilisation were higher too, with some products achieving Silver and others even earning Gold. Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification for an insulating glass product involves far more stakeholders than other glass products. The glass itself needs to be certified and, furthermore, all the components required for its assembly into double or triple glazing, such as interlayers, adhesives, etc., need to satisfy some material health criteria. As a result, the complex certification process involved several dozen suppliers plus all of the plants that contribute to manufacturing the products. The recertification of AGC’s large insulating glass and coating portfolio stands testament to the group’s unwavering commitment to the environment and sustainability.

AGC is the only European glassmaker to be C2C certified
The Cradle to Cradle certification system evaluates a product’s sustainability across its entire life cycle. In order to achieve certification, a product must meet strict standards in five categories pertaining to health and environmental protection, namely Material Health, Material Reutilisation, Renewable Energy, Water Stewardship and Social Fairness. AGC is the first glassmaker in the world to be Cradle to Cradle certified for its large portfolio of glass products. As such, it offers the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of Cradle to Cradle Certified glass products at Bronze, Silver and Gold level*.
