New Business Development

New Business Development (NBD) is a department within AGC responsible for generating new business opportunities for the company. It seeks to identify, validate and ultimately develop new products, segments or business models, many of which often entail the company entering previously uncharted territory.

 

In managing a broad portfolio of projects (products, services, value chain, etc.) using the latest technologies and market trends, NBD is squarely focussed on innovative – some might even say audacious – ideas!

NBD projects all bear the same three key features:

  • They are high-risk, i.e. they offer a great deal of potential but are also accompanied by considerable uncertainty in both the technical and commercial sense
  • They are radically different to any of AGC's existing projects and could potentially offer the company a competitive advantage
  • They are long-term in scope (between five and ten years)

As such, NBD is frequently involved in projects around new products and services in fields which are traditionally not directly related to glass such as health, communication, energy, lighting, electronics and so forth. Its portfolio includes innovations such as Glassiled electroluminescent glass, prototypes such as AudioGlass (www.agc-audioglass.com), and developments in the field of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).
