I studied geology, specialising in physical and chemical analysis.

At the R&D Centre laboratory, however, I do much more than just analysis work: I take charge of the problems submitted to us, either by researchers or by production people, and carry out scientific investigation. I also follow new technologies very closely, quickly identifying applications that can be used by the researchers here. The advanced technology aspect of science, namely investigation, is very important: at the R&D Centre we play at Sherlock Holmes every day!

In addition to having the necessary technical background, you need to be very good at listening and understanding when you are a specialist. The reason is that when someone comes to you with a problem, you have to grasp what is involved straight away, and appreciate what is involved for the researcher or production person concerned.

What I like about AGC Glass Europe is that when something is identified as being important, you really are given all the resources necessary to take care of it: that’s a dream situation for a specialist!

Another thing that I really like is that you see the end results of your project, not only in production but also in everyday life. It’s very concrete.
