| I was attracted to the R&D Centre when I discovered its diversity, with the possibility to do chemistry in so many different fields. Glass compositions, fire-resistant glass, chemical vapour deposition: that’s all pure chemistry, stuff I didn’t know anything about. My greatest motivation is the chance of having a job in which chemistry is the key to all developments. | |
| In our field we are able to work at a very high technical level in everything to do with simulation. We have very advanced skills compared with other research centres. Mechanical engineering is a very important subject in my department, and I like being able to make real use of what I have learned. Thermal aspects, digital simulation, making improvements to processes, lending technical assistance: these are all very exciting for a mechanical engineer! | |

| At the R&D Centre we are fairly product-oriented: we have frequent contacts with people from Marketing and Production, and it’s particularly enriching to get out of the lab now and then. At university we worked on samples of around 20 square centimetres, but the first day I went out into the field we were working with sheets measuring 6 by 3 metres! That literally gives larger dimensions to your work, and to your accomplishments. | |
| At Glaverbel the patent engineers are attached to the R&D Centre. This is no ivory tower here, as we are directly concerned with all the applications. In fact, this is a very important element. We have frequent meetings with the researchers, marketing people, legal experts and senior managers. Being involved in strategic, industrial and other problems makes my job very lively and relevant.
