As a world premiere, AGC and Danny Venlet presented the Luminous Touch concept, an OLED light source* fully integrated into a glass partition, at the Belgium is Design – Perspectives Exposition held during Milan design week, at the Triennale di Milano.
Thanks to its competences in coatings and electronics AGC successfully combined the OLED light source with a switch technology. The luminous switch floats on the glass, without any visible wire. When touched the OLED switch lights-up together with the allocated light fitting. The OLED brightness simply follows the dimming level.
This new concept is part of the exhibition “Belgium is Design” that gathers some of the most innovative design pieces recently developed by Belgian designers.
With this prototype AGC demonstrates its advanced capabilities in integration of OLED in glass and its capability to combine it with other functionalities (like touch, dimming, etc.). AGC innovative approach and the collaboration with Danny Venlet showcases a beautiful object with a clear focus on perfect design and simple use.
For AGC, the goal is to explore further the interest of the market for this kind of integration of OLED into glass. We can imagine a variety of applications combining decorative and functional advantages of OLEDs and glass. One may think about mirrors, decorative glass for furniture, architectural glass, glass for appliances, automotive or even the medical sector. We are interested to generate new concept ideas focused on our customer needs.
OLED is for sure one of the most promising technologies for lighting. It is flat and it provides uniform light at low level of energy consumption. In addition it has a very long lifetime and stays very cool at the surface compared to traditional light sources which makes it comfortable and very ecological. This new technology offers completely new possibilities that AGC will surely actively explore in the coming months.
